The Saints picked up where they left off last week, kicking seven goals in the first quarter to be on their way towards a 22.10 (142) to 6.5 (41) victory at McPherson Oval.
Key forward Daniel Jordan led the scoring with seven goals, taking him to 35 for the season and 30 in just four matches back from injury.
Midfielder Jake May produced another powerhouse performance on the ball while also coming up with four goals.
“Jake was outstanding for us,” coach Kirk Hamblin said. “He’s come ahead in leaps and bounds and played some real consistent football this year. He kicked four goals from the midfield and got a mountain of possession through the middle.”
North Wagga’s only loss, to East Wagga-Kooringal, was now two months ago and in that time, only CSU have come within six goals of them.
Hamblin is pleased with their consistency.
“It was a good win. We were probably a little bit flat in patches but the boys used the ball pretty well and some of the guys played some really good football through the midfield which was pleasing,” he said.
“We probably kicked away a bit in the last which was good. We had two blokes making their debut (Nahom Fitzgerald-Holmes and Riley Martin) and we wanted to make it a game for them to remember and to get excited and really enjoy the game.”
It certainly was for Fitzgerald-Holmes whose first disposal was a left-foot goal.
Hamblin was coaching from the sidelines as he works through a knee problem. Soreness after the game against Marrar has turned out to be a torn meniscus and he’ll have to consider whether he needs to go for surgery sooner rather than later, or if it can wait until the end of the season.
Jack Hillman kicked three of Barellan’s six goals while midfielder Sean Ellis was their best in his return from injury and backman Shaun Bourchier also worked hard throughout.
