The Dragons added to the poor season of the Cherrypickers with a 23-22 victory.
They led 13-6 at half-time and then 17-6 and 23-12 but only just managed to hold on.
Even Elwin admitted a lucky bounce from a Bobby Roberts chip kick ensured his team’s third win of the year.
Young captain Tom Bush scored with eight minutes to play to get within one point and set up the thrilling finish.
Temora was then denied a try but the call didn’t prove costly.
While pleased to come away with another win, Elwin can’t help but be frustrated by how his team struggles to put in a full performance.
“We’re obviously not playing like finals side, but are showing a lot of glimpses where we can compete with the best,” Elwin said. “It is a bittersweet feeling as it is frustrating not being able to put the nail in the coffin.
“But we are slowly learning to win.
“It is the main thing we are trying to learn and unfortunately we are learning the hard way.
“Hopefully it is something we can build off for the next few years.”
