But the launch of a fresh micro-festival was an event city families, like the Gray family, felt was worth braving the cold for.
Saturday’s Lost Lanes micro-festival attracted hundreds of residents to Fitzmaurice Street, with firelight, music and fresh food bringing light, sound and taste sensations to a forgotten part of the city.
The festivities follow Wagga City Council’s plan to showcase the often neglected riverside, just off the main street.
Amy Gray, who wandered the other-wise abandoned laneway, with her young family, said the event was a great success.
“It’s beautiful,” Ms Gray said. “It’s a wonderful idea.”
She said there should definitely be events like it more often.
But the micro-festival did not only showcase local produce and talent, it also unveiled four large murals, painted on the river-facing walls of Cadell Place.
