Settlers Village this week submitted a development application for the addition to the existing seniors housing development, with an estimated cost of $1.7m.
The original development application was for 150 properties in total and currently there are 132 units on site, either completed or under construction.
Six townhouses, three two-storey buildings, are to be added with a unique design by allowing entry and exit from each townhouse to comply with the seniors legislation.
The Settlers Village manager Steve McCrea said the construction of additional townhouses are a “working progress” with an aim to build six a year.
“We see the need for an ageing population and the retirement village offers safety, companionship and support,” Mr McCrea said.
“Settlers can see the demand and we’re building the need to suit them accordingly.”
These dual occupancy townhouses will be similar in appearance to the current units and the building materials will include brick on the ground floor and a timber frame, EXIN panels on the first floor and Colorbond roofing, which will match the existing light coloured Colorbond roofs.
Mr McCrea said these “up-market” townhouses are spacious and large “mod-cons” to ensure an easier and more comfortable way of life.
“We’re also positioning these townhouses to get the beautiful views over the north Wagga fields,” he said.
