NSW Rural Fire Service members will be conducting the hazard reduction burn this Sunday, June 24, ahead of the next bush fire danger period.
Operational officer Bradley Stewart said crews would be monitoring the fire across 11 hectares, near Mann and Wade Streets, from 11am until 5pm.
However, he said smouldering could continue through to Wednesday.
Mr Sterwart said each year there was only a small window of opportunity to conduct these burns and conditions had to be “just right”.
“Hazard reduction is a vital element in helping to reduce the intensity of bush fires,” Mr Stewart said.
“This controlled burn will help protect properties … and also assist firefighters to control any future bush fires.”
Coolamon residents have been advised to stay indoors, close windows, protect pets and remove washing from the line.
“Motorists in the area should slow down and take extra care if driving through smoke,” Mr Stewart said.
“Keep windows up and turn your headlights on.”
