Australia is over the hump and slowly on the way to bidding farewell to those long dark mornings.
Officially, sunrise in Wagga on the winter solstice was at 7.18am, after first light at 6.50am.
Sunset will be at 5.05pm, with the last light at 5.34pm.
Tonight will be the longest night of the year, with the first light again appearing in the sky at 6.50am tomorrow and setting at 5.06pm.
Incidentally, if it felt a little chilly as the sun was rising, it was because the temperature was hovering between 3.4 degrees at 7am and 3.7 degrees at 7.30am.
That was up from the overnight low of 2.2 degrees, recorded at 4.40am.
Weatherwise, the shortest day of the year in Wagga is looking quite nice. We’re heading for a top temperature of 16 degrees and that cloud is going to clear away, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Depending on the year, the winter solstice falls between June 21 and 23, with the longest day some time between December 21 and 23.
