Geppert injured his hamstring in Saturday’s win over Wagga Tigers and has been ruled out for a minimum of a month.
The 32-year-old has been extremely durable throughout his distinguished career and only missed two games to an ankle injury since debuting in senior football back in 2004.
Geppert’s injury will force Collingullie-GP to experiment with a new-look forward line against Narrandera on Saturday, with coach Luke Gestier also in doubt with a hamstring complaint.
Geppert revealed the news from the physio was worse than he initially feared.
“It’s slightly worse than expected. I’ve got a grade two tear, which is four to six weeks,” Geppert said.
“I’ve never missed a game through injury, apart from two weeks with an ankle, so I’ve been pretty lucky really.”
The Demons face Narrandera on Saturday, followed by Leeton-Whitton before a club bye.
They then face Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes and Turvey Park away from home.
Geppert has set his sights on missing just the two games.
“My aim is to be back to play Mango at Mango,” he said.
“But if it’s not right that game, then I’ll leave it until the next week.
“The old saying I’ve heard 100 times since Saturday’s game from all the old boys is that when you think it’s right you leave it another week.”
Geppert is not looking forward to time on the sidelines.
“It’s not ideal, right in the middle of the year, too,” he said.
“I’m going to focus on doing everything they tell me to do for it and hopefully I can come back and don’t do it again.
“It’s my left hamstring, which adds to the complexity of it.”
Geppert has 33 goals from the opening seven games this season. He leads the Riverina League goalkicking by 12 but this injury will open up the race for the title.
More importantly, it adds to the Demons’ injury woes.
Geppert, Gestier, Matt Klemke (head knock) and Brad McMillan (ankle) were all injured in the win over Tigers.
Co-captain Jayden Klemke (ankle), Tim Beckmans (hamstring), Sean Keith (hamstring) and Dusty Rogers (finger) were already on the injured list.
