Brennan, 33, has played three matches for Nyah Nyah-West United under former Lions’ teammate Darryl White this season and will line-up for the Swampies against Brock-Burrum at Brocklesby on Saturday.
The 193-centimetre left-footer has ties with coach Joel Price and star Swampie Daniel Cox.
“The club is extremely excited to get the services of someone who has played 170-odd matches of AFL football,” Price said.
“His experience and leadership will be invaluable to our younger players in particular.
“I played with Jared at Southern Districts in the Northern Territory and country football is something we have spoken about for a few years now.
“He’s got a real hunger for success and wants to help us get to where we want to be.
“It’s really exciting for the footy club.”
Brennan will travel to play most of Henty’s final nine home and away matches as well as finals.
The Swampies have charged to the top of the ladder on the back of the strong performances from recruits Damian Cupido, Jarrah Maksymow, Daniel and Dale Cox and Will Farrer.
Price is unsure where he will play Brennan.
“I’m not sure yet – it doesn’t worry him,” Price said.
“At 193cm, he can play every position on the ground.
“I’d say it could change from week-to-week depending on the situation.
“The best thing about Jared is that he approached us and is just really keen to play some country footy.”
Brennan was drafted by the Brisbane Lions with selection No.3 in the 2002 draft and debuted in round four the following season.
He kicked a career-best seven goals against Collingwood in 2007.
The left-footer played his best football in 2008 when he finished in the top five in Brisbane’s best and fairest and made the Australian International Rules squad.
Brennan finished with 119 matches for the Lions before being traded to Gold Coast in 2011 and playing another 54.
He retired in 2013.
