Jackson came off second best in the loss to Junee at Laurie Daley Oval on Saturday.
While he won’t need surgery, Jackson will be out of action for some time.
“The doctor wasn’t too sure, but reckons just six weeks off work, no footy for the rest of the year and to really relax and take it easy as there is nothing you can really do,” Jackson said.
“Everything inside there is holding it together.”
The 21-year-old was injured in what he described as a “crusher tackle” in the second half of the 38-18 loss.
“I ran back to get the ball and grounded it in the in-goal and normally when you ground it in the in-goal it is a goal line drop out so I surrendered and then the bloke came over the top me,” Jackson said.
“As I relaxed he sorta crusher tackled me and my neck went forward and hyper extended that much that it has fractured my spine.”
After making his first grade debut last year, Jackson started the year strongly with four tries in his first two games and has only missed one so far.
It was part of a bad day for the Wagga club.
Not only was Jackson injured, but young halfback Tyson McLachlan also injured his ankle.
Troy Barby was also sent off for a high tackle on Simione Naiduki and the loss saw them slip further behind in the race for the finals position.
They will be looking to hit back when they tackle Tumut at Equex Centre on Saturday.
