The national holiday in the Philippines is celebrated on June 12, and commemorates the independence of the Philippines from Spain.
Marina O’Donnell, one of the organisers of the Wagga event said it was a happy occasion and gave the community a chance to focus on the positives.
“We are celebrating our freedom,” she said.
“We are in Australia, we just try to celebrate that we are happy and that we have the freedom that they fought for.”
People traveled from Leeton, Gundagai, Tumut and even Melbourne to attend the event.
Traditional dances, speeches, prize draws and a traditional lunch were put on by the community to mark the day.
