THE 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours list included councillor Jenny Clarke, who was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.
This Narrandera Shire stalwart has served five terms as a councillor and was mayor of Narrandera from 2011 to 2016.
Among her special achievements were leading the council away from amalgamation and succeeding, chairing the committee which enabled the Narrandera Arts and Community Centre to get up and running, leading a delegation to Sydney to appeal for funding for assisted living in Narrandera, and encouraging more women to join council.
Other awards during her term in office include becoming a recipient of the Local Government NSW Emeritus Award in 2016 for services to the community; the Gabrielle Upton MP award for contributions by women in local government; the Paul Harris Fellow in 2016 from Rotary Club Narrandera for her contributions to the community; and she was President of Rotary for the 2010/2011 year.
She has also been a presenter on Community Radio Station SPIRIT FM for 12 years.
THE 2018 Goshin Ryn Karate National Championship at Blacktown, NSW in June saw thirteen members from the Narrandera Karate Club compete.
Differing in ages and competition levels, they acquitted themselves very well, returning home with 11 trophies, several participatory medals and increased confidence to compete in future martial arts events.
