Serving up delicious food and coffee every day just isn’t enough for the team at Thorne Street Cafe, they are gearing up to share “Friday night feasts” with the community.
The feasts are set to start in spring and will include traditional Iranian food from the cafe owners own family.
Thorne Street Cafe owner Fi Ziff had one taste of her husbands traditionally-cooked meals and knew she had to share it with the Wagga community.
“My husband, Parsa, will be cooking food from a notebook of recipes his mum, Marjan, hand wrote and posted over from Iran so he could enjoy Iranian food,” she said.
“I was so impressed with the food, how it was cooked and tasted that I insisted we give Wagga a taste.”
The Friday night feasts will be a BYO event and are gearing up to be a great social occasion with impressive food and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
In the meantime, enjoy everything Thorne Street Cafe has to offer with new $10 coffee and meal deals.
Where it all started
After the corner store on Thorne Street closed down Fi Ziff didn’t want to see the stunning 80-year-old building go to waste, so she decided to open a cafe.
Today, the Thorne Street Cafe is highly successful and going from strength to strength.
“It was the location that inspired me to open the cafe,” Thorne Street Cafe owner Fi said.
“I felt that it was an opportunity to keep the corner store vibe alive, by giving it new life where people could gather and catch up with friends and family.
“We have an amazing location overlooking the park.”
Big changes
Three years on from opening its doors and there have been plenty of changes to accommodate the growing business.
When it first started they traded as Thorne Street General Store for a year selling food and drinks in takeaway containers, today they have crockery and cutlery.
Seating inside, and outside, has expanded from 24 to 77 to accommodate the growing number of patrons including chairs and tables placed in Collins Park – just across the road from the cafe.
Other improvements over time have included the commercial kitchen, indoor seating and accessible toilets.
The Thorne Street Cafe feel
The difference you will find at Thorne Street Cafe compared to others? Their community spirit.
The team is made up of 12 staff who work hard to make every customer feel welcomed.
“We aim to make customers feel important to us because they are,” Fi said.
“We welcome customers with warmth and gratitude, we get to know their name and coffee preference very quickly. Every staff member works to ensure that customers leave feeling good.
“Thorne Street Cafe is warm, welcoming and peaceful with easy parking and stunning views of Collins Park.
“Part of the experience has to be great coffee and great food - nothing less.”
