Keeping people and livestock safe while producing an efficient and high-quality product is the goal for the team at ProWay Livestock Equipment.
These elements made the team stand out at this year’s Golden Crow awards.
They took out the award for excellence in business and the overall Golden Crow Award.
“When Adam starting to describe the business that had won leading up to the announcement, I thought hang on, that sounds like a similar business to ours, and before you know it he had read out ProWay Livestock Equipment,” director Joe Hoban said.
The handling systems they produce are automated with a remote control outside of the yards to keep handlers out of stock pens.
Using hydraclics and pneumatic parts enables them to create gates, crushes and drafting systems which can be operated from a distance.
Drafting systems can even be linked to ear tags and scales to draft stock based on weight, age or a combination of factors automatically.
This increases safety and has revolutionised stock handling for both family farms and commercial operations.
ProWay has been in operation for the past 18 years mainly servicing “mum and dad” farmers but more recently they have moved into commercial installations and even export with a system just shipped to the US.
“There is huge potential in the US,” marketing manager Patrick Ryan said.
“There is a bit of a hole in the market in terms of building gear to the level we do.”

While expanding operations has been a goal over the past few years, their focus is always firmly on safety, efficiency and quality.
“We’re building equipment that is safe and easy to use and making a traditionally unsafe business better to work in,” Mr Ryan said.
“For customers, at the end of the day that means profitability gains.
“They’re saving time on the job and doing it safely.”
However, none of their successes would have been possible without their strong team. There are around 80 people employed within the business plus a number of regional contractors.
“We have worked hard and smart to get to the size and energy of a business that not only has a diverse range of products, but also reduces risk by spreading our work over many geographical regions,” director Bill Thomas said.
“We are lucky to have good people working with us to make this possible.”
The team is always expanding and looking for ways to improve.
“We’re always trying to find good people to join the team,” Mr Ryan said.
“If people with skills or people in the community want to have a crack the we’re keen to get them on board.”
