The Swans took outright top spot on the Riverina League ladder on the weekend with a 20-point win over the previously undefeated Collingullie-Glenfield Park at Exies Oval.

The challenges keep on coming for Griffith as they prepare to take on the third-placed Mangoplah Cookardinia United-Eastlakes on Saturday.

The Swans have not won at Mangoplah Sportsground in seven years with their last win coming back in 2011, when they enjoyed a 67-point win under Damien Scott.

Duncan was best-on-ground that day and kicked three goals in the win and he is confident the Swans are good enough to again conquer their toughest road trip.

“We spoke about it after the game on Saturday that it’s been a while since we’ve had a win over there,” Duncan said.

“Even when he had that period of dominance and they were struggling, we would still go over there and lose. It’s by far our hardest trip.”

Duncan is not exactly sure what makes it such a difficult assignment.

“It’s our furthest trip, it’s in the middle of nowhere. We turn off at Collingullie and take the back road there,” he said.

“I don’t know really. There’s not much there. It’s not a great place to visit.”

Duncan, 35, is the only player on Griffith’s list to have won a premiership at the club.

Now an assistant coach under Will Griggs, Duncan is loving the Swans’ start to the year.

“Without a doubt, it’s been a while since I’ve been in this situation,” he said.

“Two years ago, in our first year under (Adrian Pavese) we were seven (wins) and two (losses) and ended up nine and six. So we know it’s only early stages and what can happen.

“It has been a while since we have been the hunted now, I guess, and we don’t know how the playing group are going to embrace it. The young blokes haven’t been in this situation before.

“There’s a bit of arrogance but it’s a healthy arrogance. We’re going to keep things in check.”

Griffith could welcome as many as four players back on Saturday with Ben King, Lucas Conlan, James Taylor and Jack Rowston all expected to be available.

They will lose Jacob Conlan back to Canberra Demons, while Theo Valeri is likely to miss after popping his shoulder out in the win over Collingullie-GP.
