The Wanderers fought valiantly but failed to capitalise on a number of scoring opportunities against the plucky Condors in what was at time a heated affair.
Two red cards were issued to Wagga’s Ben Holt and Condor Cristian Leiva Martinez after an on-field altercation and both sides pressed hard to use the extra space.
Wanderers coach Ross Morgan was left frustrated by a lack of finesse in the 2-0 loss.
“I think from the start we were a team that was positive with our possession and we really sued the ball, but we were unable to finish any of our chances,” Morgan said.
“It’s the first game we’ve come away feeling we should’ve got more out of it.”
Morgan was tight-lipped on the red card incident and gave credit to Condors for the win.
“Some words were said on the field and that’s all I’ll say about it … but I don’t think the red card changed much, in fact it probably helped us to some extent,” he said.
“In the end, they (Condors) just took their chances well and they deserved the win.”
Wanderers debutant Nicolaas Van Honk drew praise for his spirited showing at Gissing Oval while skipper Rob Fry gave strong direction from the back.
Meanwhile, Wagga City Wanderers proved their class in the under 18 and under 20 divisions with a pair of strong showings at Gissing Oval.
The under 18 side made mincemeat of Western Condors in an 8-1 demolition while the under 20 side proved they’re no easybeats with a 1-all draw.
Jacob Ochieng starred for the under 18 side with a hat-trick of goals while Lachlan Cook and Luke Stevens bagged two goals apiece in their win.
