Not all environment water is metered or monitored – yet we as irrigators in this region are metered and monitored, as is required by law, to a high standard. How then is the recovery of 605Gl and then another 450Gl able to be transparent, accountable to the same high standard?

The science is flawed, indeed if there is any at all that underpins these figures. The facts, as highlighted by Professor Peter Gell, Louise Burge, John Lolicato, Neil Eagle and many more learned people are ignored. It is almost like a war against the scientific facts. Why? We all know that it is impossible to fulfil these targets.  

Just because it is said to be happening by the politicians and the authorities does not make it right.

The MDBA created a new service of demand – the push of an ailing environment. Yet the reality is that it is all based on political ideology. Power and position. Votes for South Australia. Where are we able see how much water is held by government? How much is enough? 

They certainly know how much is held by the irrigator and their water delivery companies.

All this comes at the expense of our communities, highlighted in the independent reports of RMCG and the GMID – where the facts are that $700 million is removed from our regions as a direct impact of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.  

The Southern Basin communities are the casualties once again where the political decision makers have used water to influence their position and power.

We are in danger of becoming an economic backwater, plagued by unemployment, redundant infrastructure and purposeless lives.

If it wasn’t for the ABC, we common people would be unable to access commercial free, unbiased news reports.

We certainly wouldn’t get it from commercial radio, TV nor even the newspapers, all of whom are more concerned about not upsetting their sponsors and advertising clients than they are about telling us what is really going on and why.

I, for one, and I know plenty of others, say long live the ABC.

In The Daily Advertiser on May 30 in news (“Abortion vote still divides” and in the next daily issue on May 31 in letters (“Call for support of bill”), Andreia Schineanu, in support of the Exclusion Zone Bill in Parliament, viciously attacks those who offer an alternative to an invasive and fatal procedure - with an innocent human life bloodily ended and the mother all too often, destined to physical and/or psychological and emotional consequences.

Abortion is a “quick fix” which is imposed on an emotionally devastated woman who would be safer if she were given support to continue the pregnancy.
