Seven schools from across Wagga and Tumut will be represented at Parramore Park on Thursday in one of the region’s premier tournaments.
NRL game development officer James Smart said the Country Cup was among the most competitive school events for rugby league in Wagga.
“The Mortimer Shield and Trent Barrett Shield are big events but the CRL Country Cup is definitely up there,” Smart said.
Teams will compete in under 13 and under 15 pools with traditional rivals Mater Dei Catholic College and Kildare Catholic College set to clash in both divisions.
Aspiring NRL players will also have the opportunity to impress visiting scouts and club representatives, who are tipped to be on the sidelines for the schoolboy competition.
“We’re seeing more and more clubs starting to come out to country areas and have a look around,” Smart said.
“They’re really start to take notice of country kids.”
Games start at 9:30am and conclude at 2.30pm.
