Kildare claimed back-to-back Carroll Cup titles by running over the top of Mater Dei Catholic College 10.9 (69) to 6.3 (39).
Mater Dei’s 16-year-old sensation Nathanael Mooney helped his team to a brilliant start as they went into quarter-time 16 points up.
But Kildare stepped it up after the opening break and replied with four unanswered goals to take a 10-point lead into half-time.
Mooney kicked his fourth to narrow the margin to four points early in the third term but that was as close as Mater Dei would get.
Kildare stretched the lead to 14 points at three-quarter-time then sealed the game with the first three goals of the final term.
Kildare captain Jack Sase was thrilled to see the school go back-to-back.
“All the hard work we’ve been doing, it’s paid off,” Sase said.
“We had a few injuries on the weekend and the boys all turned up to play on a Wednesday night, I’m proud of them.
“It’s unbelievable. We were underdogs after our first loss so to get this win was unbelievable.”
Kildare forward Riley Corbett was awarded the Mark Gooden Medal for best-on-ground. He finished with 3.6 for the night, with 2.3 of that coming in a big last quarter.
Ryan Allen was strong through the midfield, while Josh Buchanan and Will Reinhold were others to shine in the win.
Mater Dei’s hopes were seriously dented when Mooney went off injured late in the third term. Jack Carey and Wes Clark were Mater Dei’s best.
