Year 11 students Rhiannon Savic and Tarnayar Hinch partnered with Ellen McIntyre and Sophie Crouch in the 4x100m relay in Kooringal High’s team.
Running in that order, the quartet completed the quickest circuit of a senior girls’ team at the carnival in more than half a century.
Their time of 53.82s was almost one second quicker than the record set way back in 1967, when the Mount Austin team won in 54.70s.
“We’re extremely proud of them, it’s a sensational result, thoroughly deserved,” Kooringal High sports coordinator Liz Davies said.
“They’re just an all-round great bunch of girls as well as very good athletes.”
The record-breaking run was even more meritorious given Hinch was a late call-up to the team.
McIntyre was also one of the five individual record-setters at the carnival, breaking her own senior girls long jump record which she had set last year.
The Riverina Anglican College won the overall school honours, from Mater Dei Catholic College with Kooringal High third.
