It comes amid the third stage of the public hospital’s multi-million-dollar development.
The project was originally ear-marked to be completed in 2016.
It follows the finalising of the second stage in December last year, with delays partially attributed to the discovery of the deadly material in July 2017.
So the Asbestos discovery this week came as no great surprise.
Wagga Base Hospital director Helen Cooper said the material was being managed “in accordance with SafeWork NSW regulations” and “all health and environmental regulations”.
”Air monitoring is in place and a qualified environmental hygienist is supervising the work,” Ms Cooper said.
The third and final stage of the state-government-funded redevelopment is set to cost $170 million, of a total $282.1 million.
It follows the completion of the hospital’s fresh front door, forecourt and additional parking spaces.
