Lenon has coached clubs to flags in both competitions and believes Farrer League could be much more competitive in a second showdown but would need to make one major change.
“The Farrer League to be competitive need to make it compulsory for players to play,” Lenon said.
“I reckon if they could pick their best possible side, they could be a lot more competitive.
“The RFL is the stronger competition because they’ve got more depth. For the Farrer League to be competitive, they need to pick their strongest side.
“I think they could have one more year (of the rivalry) if that’s the approach that the Farrer League took.”
The two leagues met in the representative format for the first time in eight years last Saturday, with Riverina posting a resounding 85-point win.
Both teams had a number of key personnel missing.
Both leagues have suspended players in the past for making themselves unavailable for representative football and Lenon believes that is the only way you will get the best Farrer League team on the paddock.
The concept is now in limbo for next year due to the one-sided nature of last Saturday’s game.
