Emergency services were called to Webb Park after 2.25 on Tuesday morning, following reports a car was on fire.
Upon arrival, Fire and Rescue NSW crews found a Nissan Pulsar ablaze and worked quickly to extinguish the flames.
Wagga’s police chief Andrew Spliet said the vehicle had been stolen from an Ashmont home on Alexander Street.
It is the latest in a spate of car fires, with more than 27 incidents reported this year.
It follows 104 similar reports in 2017 and 97 in the year before that.
Senior Inspector Spliet said officers were continuing their inquiries on Tuesday and calling for any residents with information to come forward.
“Anybody’s property that gets stolen is a concern for us,” Inspector Spliet said.
“If someone knows something or they saw anything suspicious or unfamiliar people walking towards a home that was targeted, they should let us know.”
Contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.
Fire and Rescue NSW Turvey Park station officer Chad Kennis said firefighters never liked rushing to extinguish car fires.
“It’s always someone’s pride and joy,” Mr Kennis said. “It is frustrating for us, but we’re just putting it out.”
He said it was hard to understand how someone could find joy inflicting pain on others.
