Orton was knocked out in the opening minutes of the second quarter of Saturday’s representative showdown with Farrer League at Robertson Oval.
He was taken to hospital where he was cleared of any further damage. Orton is still experiencing headaches and sore eyes and will miss Saturday’s clash with the Bulldogs.
“I won’t play,” Orton said.
“As soon as I knew I had been knocked out, I ruled myself out.
“I’ll sit this week out, then we have the bye after that so I’ll take it easy this week, ease back into it next week and be fully reloaded for Collingullie the week after that.”
Griffith have been the most impressive Riverina League team over the opening month of the competition.
The Swans will be out to stretch their unbeaten run to five against the Bulldogs, who sit in fourth position.
Turvey Park had their first loss of the year when going down to Collingullie-Glenfield Park last round and will be keen to bounce back against the Swans.
Orton missed the remainder of the representative game and was kept updated of his team’s progress from his hospital bed.
He was thrilled with the final result, an 85-point win.
“I’m super proud of the way we moved the footy and finished off the game,” Orton said.
“Everything I spoke about before the game and in the lead up showed in the game and I’m super proud of them.”
Footage of the incident where Orton was knocked out has been reviewed and been deemed an accident.
It appears as Orton was struck by a stray knee when looking to win the football.
