As a leading independent girls’ school, boarding forms a vital part of life at Wenona.
The school offers a rich co-curricular and extra-curricular program, and given its close proximity to the city, boarders are encouraged to take full advantage of as many different opportunities as their individual schedule will allow.
“There is no fixed formula for the number and type of activities each girl can do,” head of boarding Nonie Ayling said.
“We understand each girl is an individual with different talents and interests, but everyone is encouraged and supported to get involved with anything they are passionate about.”
Sixteen-year-old Paige Sedgwick, from Cootamundra, has been boarding at Wenona for the past year and has embraced the many different opportunities that School and city life have to offer.

She’s taken up new sports, such as waterpolo, and is an active member of the Amnesty, Environment and Gender Equity Clubs. She’s also a regular fixture at the Wenona Car Restoration Club, and travels off-campus to pursue her passion for ballet.
“It sounds like I do a lot, but the boarding staff really help me to balance my study with other activities,” Paige said.
The boarding house staff is committed to helping each girl to strike a successful balance between academic and co-curricular activity.
“Whilst their academic achievements are important, these must go hand-in-hand with opportunities to pursue their passions, within a supportive community,” says Mrs Ayling.
“Depending on the season and the weather, we will organise trips to the beach or visit Sydney’s many different art galleries, theatres and museums. The girls often have fun baking in the house kitchen or going out to local cafés to celebrate birthdays or special occasions. We believe that this independence helps them to develop a sense of responsibility that will stand them in good stead throughout their life.”
Boarding at Wenona offers our girls, and their families, the opportunity to be immersed in a vibrant, diverse and supportive community, where they can help each other grow and learn, and develop lifelong friendships.
