The Noni B Group has paid $31 million to buy the Rivers, Katies, Crossroads, Autograph and Millers chains from Specialty Fashion Group, which retained just one label, City Chic.
Wagga has outlets for all six of those stores, employing dozens of people, while there is also a Millers in Leeton.
Staff at all five newly sold stores told The Daily Advertiser they could not comment on the sale, and suggesting calling head office.
Calls to the head office have not yet been returned.
Noni B chief executive officer Scott Evans told reporters earlier in the week his company could work with shopping centre landlords to “get better outcomes for landlord and tenant”.
He did not mention possible store closures.
The previous owners, Specialty Fashion Group, had previously announced a plan to close a raft of stores, but did not go public with which stores were in the firing line.
