After working in the banking sector for nearly 30 years Debbie wanted a job where she could see she was making a tangible difference in people’s lives.

After discussions it with her husband Tony, they decided to become foster carers.

“We had a great consultation with Anglicare,” said Debbie.

“The team are professional and the experience was positive.

“We have a case worker that works with us.

“If we have any problems, we can ring our case worker.

“They also visit us on a regular basis and give us continual training.

The experience of becoming foster carers has been life-changing for the couple.

“There have been a lot of changes in our lives, and we’ve had a few challenges thrown at us,” Tony said.

“But you get the relational reward and the knowledge that you’re doing the right thing.

“The young person we care for has been through a lot of trauma, but now he has a stable-permanent home.

“He knows that he’s cared for and we can already see positive changes in the way he responds.

“He’s definitely part of our family.

“People just need to open their homes and their hearts.”​
