Round three of the Carroll Cup competition moves to Monday night this week where Kooringal High and Wagga High will face off for a spot in the semi-finals at 6.30pm at Robertson Oval.
Both teams enjoyed big wins over Mount Austin High School in their opening games and will now go head-to-head in a bid to keep their Carroll Cup hopes alive.
Schmetzer is confident Kooringal will give a good account of themselves.
“We’ve got a much improved side from last year,” Schmetzer said.
“We’ve got seven senior players running around, which is good for our chances so we’ll take a positive attitude into our game.”
One of those senior players, George Kendall, will come into the game in brilliant form after a best-on-ground performance in Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes’ win over Wagga Tigers on Saturday.
Michael Driscoll, Angus McLay and Kyle Schmetzer have also played good senior football this year and will be keys for Kooringal.
Schmetzer said his team is looking forward to the opportunity that presents itself on Monday night.
“It’s a big game and at training the boys were really looking forward to it and are excited by the challenge ahead,” he said.
“The boys trained well this week, we worked on a lot of things and we can only get better.
“Wagga High and us always have a good contested game whenever we play each other and I’m sure (Monday night) will be one of those again.
“It should be a good game and I’m sure they will be really keen for it as well.”
The winner of Kooringal High and Wagga High, will play the loser of Mater Dei Catholic College and Kildare Catholic College in the semi-final.
Mater Dei and Kildare play at 8pm on Monday night at Robertson Oval.
Both teams have enjoyed a win over The Riverina Anglican College (TRAC), with Mater Dei doing it in a much more emphatic fashion last Wednesday.
