The lower alpine region has been blanketed by snow as a cold front crosses southeastern Australia, dumping snow down to 700m above sea level in the South West Slopes.
It was a dog’s evening out for the pooches at the SMART Animal Sanctuary at Batlow, with the rehoming centre posting this video of pets playing in the fresh powder.
On Friday morning, the sanctuary reported that a couple of inches of snow had fallen overnight at the Greenhills Road property.
Parts of the Batlow to Tumbarumba Road are subject to alpine conditons, with NSW Live Traffic warning that the snow and ice between Batlow and Willigobung is affecting traffic.
Drivers should exercise caution while travelling in the area.
At Selwyn Snowfields, the maximum temperature predicted by the Bureau of Meteorology for Friday is an icy 0 degrees.
More rain or slow is expected late in the afternoon and evening, with thunderstorms and potentially small hail.
Sheep graziers across the Riverina, South West Slopes and Snowy Mountains have been warned they face risks of sheep and lamb loss due to the conditions forecast for the start to the weekend.
Cold temperatures, rain and showers are likely to be boosted by westerly winds over Friday and Saturday.
