Heaping the hurt of the Boiled Lollies after their 117-0 thrashing by Waratahs last week, Aggies took a 54-10 victory at Conolly Rugby Complex.
Playing without three influential figures in their back line, Gerard McTaggart, Cameron Duffy and Hamish Pennington, coach Will Mitchell was thrilled with how the younger members of the team stood up.
“We are really, really stoked with the young guys that stepped up,” Mitchell said. “Especially our number nine Tareq (Sorial) he just barked all day, sniped around that ruck and was really good.
“Young Tazman (Kuhan) in the second row had a real crack too.”
Ag College fired early, crossing for three tries in the first 10 minutes to take the game away from the Boiled Lollies.
Mitchell noticed an attitude improvement from the warm-up and it clearly flowed onto the field.
“I thought our attitude at the start of the game and our warm-up was much better,” he said. “It was the best it has been all year so there will be a few headaches with selections for next week.”
It was all Ag College in the first half as they dominated possession, field position and gave Wagga City only limited opportunities with the ball.
Lochlan Ramm scored on just the third phase of the game after Jack McIntosh created a try from inside their own half to open the scoring.
Sorail then had their second minutes later before another new face in the back line this year, Darcy Booth, made it a 21-0 lead.
Wagga City then had Nick Gleeson yellow carded for repeated infringements and Ag College continued to add to their lead with tries to Duncan Woods and Ben Brooke handing them a 33-0 lead at half-time.
Wagga City got on the board a minute into the second stanza but could only manage a field goal.
The second half was a much closer affair but the damage had already been done.
Andy Stanham crossed for a double while Woods added another try to his tally before Wagga City finally crossed on the last play of the game.
Mitchell thought the back line really shone as they created plenty of space both out wide and in the middle.
The win helped Ag College maintain their place in the top five and now sit a win clear of the chasing pack.
With games against Leeton and Waratahs looming, Ag College are looking for the club to build some momentum.
They had only won once in the first four rounds of the season, but will come into the clash against CSU with more confidence.
