Blackbird Power delivered the goods after a massive win in the feature race on Sunday.
After starting from barrier 11, Blackbird Power ($2.80 fav) moved around the field to sit without cover before leaving his rivals in his wake.
He defeated Red River Glacier ($12.10) by 18.1 metres in the fast mile rate of 1:58.0.
Kelly was thrilled with the performance.
“It was a fantastic win really and it’s very, very exciting,” Kelly said.
“The margin and ease was no surprise to me really, but I was so nervous going into it as when you have expectations so high, as he is going so well, you are set up for a let down when it all goes wrong.
“It can all go wrong quite easy so I’m excited we went as good as he should have went.”
It was Blackbird Power’s third run, and second win for the week.
He was second in the Wattle Time Cup at Junee last Sunday before scoring a big win at Penrith on Thursday night.
However Kelly wasn’t worried about a big workload.
He believes he’s finally worked out how to get the best out of Blackbird Power and after gaining his trainer’s licence last year, Kelly is having the ride of his life.
Meanwhile, earlier on the card Alabama Tyson set a new track record with a mile rate of 1:57:1 for the 1760 metres.
