The Bulls were coming off defeats against Leeton and Waratahs, but found things much more to their liking against Ag College at Beres Ellwood Oval on Saturday.
Aggies led 13-12 at half-time but coach Morgan Grivas was impressed by how his team responded in the second half.
They almost kept their rivals scoreless before Ethan Brien crossed on the last play of the day to see the game end 31-20.
After being less than thrilled with how they started the game, Grivas was pleased to get back to winning ways.
“We were really shut out of the game last week so it is nice to be able to take some control today, get some possession and get rewarded for it,” Grivas said.
“We knew we defended really poorly in the first half and if we were able to stop them from getting over the advantage line we could get points out of it.
“It was good to see the plan work.”
Tumut had plenty of success late on their right side as tries to Coen Potter and Josef Glamuzina sealed the second half comeback.
The return of Vaughn Scott at outside centre also helped their attacking options.
While they went into the clash without plenty of forwards how the club regrouped pleased the coach.
“I’m really happy with that,” Grivas said.
“We are missing a few with injury and it was been a pretty disappointing and distracting last 48 hours so it was good to get some footy in and concentrate on that.”
Aggies jumped out to an early lead but couldn’t sustain the pressure from Tumut in the second half.
Coach Will Mitchell thought the same issues the club had in the loss to Albury last week proved costly.
“Immaturity when it counted was probably it again,” Mitchell said.
“Two weeks in a row we’ve had opportunities to score and come away with the points but we’ve rushed it.
“We did get a bit unlucky on a couple, but we need to find the killer blow we seem to be lacking at the moment.”
Mitchell thought the team played well in patches but was disappointed with how they finished the game when it was there to be won.
“I really thought in the last 20 we would grind them out of it, but credit to them they got better,” he said.
“And with some ill discipline we didn’t have the ball and it wasn’t good enough.”
Aggies also lost second rower Oscar Sykes with a serious knee injury.
Mitchell is looking for them to hit back when they tackle Wagga City while Tumut hosts Albury.
The Bulls are still weighing up whether to appeal following Marika Vunibaka’s suspension.
