While some have spent months preparing the perfect fashion combinations, others prefer to brave the race track with a hassle free last minute outfit.
Wagga Salvation Army volunteer Julie Cheverton said fascinators and shoes were the hot items flying out the door in preparation for the big day, while hats were not as popular.
“They’re the quickest to go but we have a big formal area,” she said.
“Customers go ballistic, there’s always so many people here.”
With a half price sale held on the first and last Saturday of each month, racegoers have one more chance to get their hands on a bargain.
It’s a sentiment that Albury milliner Delphine Nicholson agrees with.
“You don’t have to spend a lot of money to bring an outfit together,” she said.
“Pairing an elegant hat with an inexpensive dress can make it pop.
“It’s the point of different you’re after.”
Ms Nicholson said regardless of price, each outfit needs to tell a story.
“It’s the finishing touches that makes it special,” she said.
“You can choose any colour as long as it matches.”
Former Lady of the Day fashions winner, Nardia Cooper, shared a helpful guide for those entering Fashions on the Field in 2017.
1. Pick one eye-catching item
For those hoping to smash the fashions competition, bold is the only way to go.
“A headpiece is definitely the way to go, but headbands and crowns are on trend for something more subtle,” Ms Cooper said.
“Whether it’s clothing or a headpiece, pick something to catch the attention of the judges.”
2. Follow the fashions criteria and dress to the weather
“For women, go for closed in shoes, stockings and headpiece, which is all winter based,” Ms Cooper said.
“Gloves are a must for women while men need to make sure their shoes are polished.
“Focus on accessories, whether it be an umbrella, a hat, raceboom, tie or pocket tie.”
3. Go for classic colour
Ms Cooper said the classic four winter colours are the way to go, but for those looking for something unusual, yellow is a big hit.
“Black and white is always the classic choice,” Ms Cooper said,
“Navy and burgundy are always a hit for winter racing.”
4. Match your hair style to your headpiece
As a qualified hairdresser, Ms Cooper has some advice for ladies hair.
“If your headpiece is quite detailed or big you want to keep the hair simple,a sleek pony or bun,” Ms Cooper said.
“A headband or crown looks good with hair up are down, waves are a good choice.”
5. Have fun
The pressure is on…but enjoy putting together and rocking your outfit on the day.
Confidence is the best accessory.
