Looking for a great day out?

Make a note in your diary on Saturday May 19, 2018 to get yourself to the Batlow CiderFest, a street party that is guaranteed to invigorate and revitalise.

Batlow CiderFest has grown from a crazy idea into a much-anticipated annual event. Fantastic autumn weather, skillful event organisation, enthusiastic volunteers and ‘excidered’ attendees will help to put a smile on your face.

Tell your friends and family members to meet you in Batlow – half way between Melbourne and Sydney, and only a couple of hours from Canberra  – for a fun day out.

Picture this

Chairs and tables in a street closed to traffic, two entertainment stages in operation all day, quality cuisine from Aussie and ethnic food stalls, top quality merchandise from a variety of stalls and, most importantly, a fabulous selection of Australian ciders to taste and take home.

A special release “FestCider” with 6.5 per cent alcohol, slightly higher than most ciders at 4.5 per cent, is guaranteed to complement the ‘Pork Apple Cider’ pie.

The pie will be introduced into the food choices for the day, alongside Batlow’s own gourmet sausage the ‘Batwurst’.

Modelled on the traditional German sausage and affectionately known as ‘Batlow’s Wurst’, it is sure to tantalise the tastebuds of even the most discerning foodie. Organisers will ensure that supplies of both will be plentiful on a day when gourmet food will be in big demand.

Another drawcard, the ‘Wacky Apple Tarts’, in their colourful costumes will help you unwind and add to this great day out.

The ‘Wacky Apple Tarts’ will be dancing the day away as they bring their own colour and energy to the streetscape in outfits inspired by the Bavarian beer wench.

Come early or stay longer

Why not arrive early as the Batlow community will host functions during the days leading up to CiderFest.

On Friday May 18, Australia’s cider producers will gather to teach each other how to do it better.

International guest speakers and experts in the field will meet with enthusiastic cider makers to discuss the finer features of cider production and sales.

This learning opportunity will be complemented by the Annual General Meeting of Cider Australia on May 17, which is being in town to take advantage of the CiderFest drawcard.

Or why not stay a few extra days to enjoy the easy bush walks or the spectacular scenery; and if you want to know more about the benefits of wholesome nutrition, the Living Food Seminar on Saturday May 26, might be of interest.

Building on last year’s undisputed success, this year’s program explores the nutritional and healing properties of whole foods; from simple pickles and jams through kefir and kombucha to ice cider.

More information about the Living Food Seminar can be found on the Batlow CiderFest webpage.
