Tim Wess, executive dean of Charles Sturt University’s science faculty, will ride more than 300 kilometres from Lightning Ridge to Bourke as part of Royal Far West’s Ride for Country Kids.
Dr Wess said Royal Far West was a vital health service for children in regional and remote areas.
Starting this Sunday, the cyclists will make their way through Walgett and Brewarrina before arriving in Bourke on Tuesday.
“There needs to be equal opportunities for health care and education to all children in Australia, regardless of where they live, and by taking part in the ride I’m raising funds and awareness to help support children in country areas,” he said. “CSU has a strong partnership with Royal Far West and we would hope the people we’re training in clinical disciplines will actually end up being part of their network.”
For 94 years Royal Far West has helped support sick children across the state, working with communities to provide access to the care available in Sydney.
