It comes as NSW legislation prohibits supermarkets from trading before 1pm, following official Anzac Day activities.
For the smaller stores, trading on the public holiday is optional. However, Wagga Marketplace and Sturt Mall will open doors from 1pm.
Cafes at both centres will be open earlier in the morning, with Sturt Mall’s coffee venues trading from 6am.
Coffee Club on Baylis Street will be serving residents from 6am until 10.30am, re-opening after the march.
Jardine’s Cafe will be open from 9.30am until the official march, and afterwards until 1pm, donating $1 per coffee to Soldier On.
Wagga’s commemorations of the sacrifices made by Australian soldiers begin at 5.30am on April 25 with the Dawn Service.
This will be followed by a pilgrimage to the War Cemetery, Kooringal Road.
Other events include:
- 7am: Breakfast at Wagga RSL Club
- 10.30am: ANZAC Day March starting at the corner of Baylis and Morgan streets, marching to the Cenotaph, Victory Memorial Gardens, corner Baylis and Morrow streets
- 11.15am: Commemorative Service
- 12.30pm: ANZAC Day Lunch at Wagga RSL Club
- 5.30pm: Sunset Service at Wagga RSL Club
The William Farrer Hotel, Farmers Home Hotel, Tolland pub and the Wagga Boat Club will be hosting games of the other-wise taboo Two-Up after the Anzac Day commemorations on Wednesday.
