The Dragons hit back from the 40-point defeat with a surprise 24-8 win over Young at Nixon Park on Sunday.
Despite injuring his ankle in Group Nine’s big win over Group 20 on Saturday, captain-coach Sam Elwin took to the field.
He was impressed by how well the Dragons played.
“We were really good I thought,” Elwin said.
“I’m proud as punch with the boys at the moment.”
Elwin thought the Dragons should have done even more damage on the scoreboard.
Grant and Matt Hughes both bombed tries after dropping the ball over the line while under no pressure, and only two of their five tries were converted.
“We probably should have beaten them by more,” Elwin said.
“It was one of those games where we could have scored a lot more points.”
Kris Rands made a big impact after missing the clash with the Bulls to start the season.
His size up front helped take some of the pressure off Hayden Philp, who was also strong, while Gavin Kite was dangerous at hooker.
It has been a horror start to the season for Young, who went down to Tumut 26-12 at home to start they season.
They now host Gundagai on Sunday and both teams will be desperate to bring up their first win.
Meanwhile Temora will look to spring another surprise when they tackle Kangaroos at Equex Centre.
The victory has given Elwin more confidence the young Dragons will scare a few more teams this season.
