The Blues recovered from a second half slip up to score a 30-22 win at Twickenham.
Tumut led 18-6 at half-time before the Wagga club roared back into the contest through tries to Tristan Dickson and Lachlan Cuell.
Co-coach Dean Bristow was pleased with how his team responded.
“Everyone was turning up for each other, doing their job and ripping in for the jumper,” Bristow said.
“It wasn’t pretty but two points is two points.
“I’m happy to come away with the win with still plenty to work on.”
Tumut’s completion rate dipped in the second half as Kangaroos started their fightback.
However Bristow thought a long range effort by Riley Sturt, set up by a break from Fetongi Tiunauvai, helped turn the tide back to them in the second half.
Kangaroos are yet to win this season.
