The Goannas lost Andrew Dickins (knee), Pat Killalea (hamstring), Charlie Chambers (concussion) and Brent Arho (wrist) to injury and had co-captain Trent Cohalan reported for rough conduct.
Aside from that, it was all good news as the Goannas finished strongly to record a big win, 13.4 (82) to 3.10 (28) at Mangoplah Sportsground.
MCUE coach Travis Cohalan was happy to take the win but said the game didn’t reach any great heights.
“It was very scrappy for the first three quarters, to be honest...and we managed to get our running game going and broke it open in the last quarter,” Cohalan said.
“Full credit to Ganmain, their pressure and structure was really good.”
Trent Cohalan was reported for a third quarter bump on Matt Knagge, that left him with a suspected broken jaw.
A GGGM player was yellow carded earlier for a tackle that left Charlie Chambers concussed.
Matt Collins was MCUE’s best, closely followed by Nick McCormack in his first game for the club. Jake Whitley battled hard in the ruck for two quarters, while Elliott Winter impressed on debut.
Aaron Proctor and Ben Walsh were GGGM’s best.
