The Bulls were celebrating their 35th anniversary and 30 years since their 1988 premiership, but the Wagga club well and truly spoiled the party.
Waratahs ran away from Tumut in the second half to score a 75-8 win at Jarrah Oval.
Coach Richard Skellern still believes there is plenty of improvement in his side.
“They played really well but discipline was down and they gave away a lot of penalties,” Skellern said.
“I think we gave away 14 penalties and our discipline let us down otherwise the scoreline might have been a bit bigger unfortunately.
“We have to fix that coming up against all these other teams.”
Wingers Corey Toole and Blake Hart continue to make their presence felt on the edges with both scoring hat-tricks in the win.
Skellern continues to be impressed by them.
“They definitely come off their wings, look for the ball and work really hard,” he said. “They are both just quick, very elusive runners but very different footballers.
“Blake is a big, strong runner who is fast and good through contact while Corey is just Mr Slippery.”
Xavier Chigwidden was a standout at 10 while Austin Wallace was good in the forwards.
Sam Hobbs made a good cameo off the bench as he pushes for his return to the halfback role.
Tumut have been on the end of losses to Leeton and Waratahs in the past two weeks.
Leeton are the only team to beat Waratahs in the past two seasons, but it was the Wagga club who really impressed Bulls coach Morgan Grivas.
“They (Waratahs) are very sharp, very well drilled and controlled possession very well and were able to score off that,” Grivas said.
“They have some very good pace one the wings.”
Tumut trailed 28-3 at half-time before Waratahs clicked into a new gear for the second half.
Grivas believes they are the team to beat this season.
“They were very good at dictating the pace of play,” he said.
“Their speed and ability to offload really scored a lot of points for them.
“If Tahs are able to perform at that level consistently you would have to install them as favourites going forward.”
Tumut tackle Ag College next week but could be without forwards Will Reynolds (knee) and Tim Graham (shoulder) while Waratahs tackle Wagga City.
