The Wagga side fell 30-20 against Junee in round one and coach Ben Jeffery is looking for a much better defensive effort at Twickenham.
He was far from impressed by the performance.
“We just can’t let teams get out to a 20-point lead, it is as simple as that,” Jeffery said.
“I think we are a much better team than that so hopefully we can bounce back.”
After showing good indications in the pre-season, Jeffery was surprised by the poor performance.
He knows a repeat effort will end badly in the hills.
“It is going to be extremely tough,” he said.
“It is a hard tough trip up there so we are going to have to play good, disciplined footy or otherwise we will end up with the same result.”
After giving the Diesels plenty of field position early their gallant second half comeback fell short.
Junee led 22-4 at half-time and Kangaroos got within four points of the lead with eight minutes remaining.
But not even a better second half pleased the coach.
“The second half was a lot better but we still can’t let in over 20 points a game or we will be beaten,” he said.
The Wagga club were on the end of a semi-finals hiding in their last trip to Twickenham.
Despite it being a new season it leaves Jeffery very wary.
“They are going to be a tough team up there to beat and the comp is looking really, really strong this year,” he said.
“If you don’t turn up on any given day I think you are going to get beat.”
Kangaroos have not made any changes to the team who lost to the Diesels.
The Blues also take an unchanged side into the clash.
Co-coach Dean Bristow is looking to make Twickenham a fortress this season.
Coming off a good win on the road against Young he will be disappointed if his side can’t make it two from two.
However he expects it will be a very different kind of game
“I think it will be vastly different to what we encountered last week,” Bristow said.
“They play a lot different style to how Young do so we are going to have be on our game.
“They are a pretty youthful and quick side.”
Bristow has backed his back line to contain the likes of Jeffery and Tristan Dickson with their mix of youth and experience.
“We have some pretty quick outside backs as well and then a good mix there with Matty Free and Fetongi (Tiuauvai) who add a different element to what the other boys do,” he said.
