It comes after Liberty From Violence chairwoman Jenny Davis announced she would be stepping down from her role on the much-loved charity’s committee. 

When no one expressed interest to take Ms Davis’s place, the committee decided it would cease its charitable function from the end of May. 

The grassroots charity began with staff members from the Mecure motel putting gifts for young children under a Christmas tree.

Since then, the free service has provided cash, mobile telephones, food, furniture, household items and personal essentials to help victims of family violence get through their immediate crisis.

Liberty From Violence has acted in a supporting role – sitting behind leading services and first responders to provide funding and wherewithal to victims when necessary. 

In a statement, Ms Davis said she remained passionate about assisting women and children escaping family violence and in danger of harm. 

“I will continue to be active in this area,” Ms Davis said. “But with a different approach.”

With a note of pride, she said Liberty From Violence had helped many of the Riverina’s most vulnerable, saving some from serious harm. 

“It is the community that ultimately decide what causes are important enough for them to support,” Ms Davis said. 

“I can only hope that others will continue in the fight against domestic violence.”
