With thousands expected to fill pubs after the traditional main-street march on Wednesday, the community was encouraged to honour the Anzac spirit respectfully.
It comes ahead of the annual day of remembrance, with officers reminding crowds, drivers, marchers and pub-goers to act appropriately on one of the most solemn and important national days.
Inspector Rob Vergano said it was okay to enjoy the marches and services, but reminded residents it was a day of respect – a day dedicated to remembering those who served their country.
“We ask that people act responsibly,” Inspector Vergano said.
“Anzac Day is not an excuse to get intoxicated and act in an anti-social way, causing fear towards and disturbing others from paying their respects to diggers.”
