When a Wagga fan told him his Wagga Comedy Festival show The Snorkler had sold out, he put a second one on, selling 80 tickets overnight.
“I got a direct message on Instagram from a woman who said it had sold out and I said ‘really?’ so I called my manager and said ‘put another one on’,” he said. “After that went on sale she sent another message and said ‘thanks for the second show, I didn’t realise but I bought tickets in the front row’.”
The veteran standup is enjoying a new wave of popularity, with his Hughesy We Have A Problem TV show drawing large audiences every week in addition to the Hughesy & Kate radio show.
“I’m really happy with the uptake, I think the TV show has been well-received around the nation, it’s good times,” he said.
Isobel MacCallum from Wagga Civic Theatre said she was excited Dave Hughes was part of the festival and encouraged people to check out the other acts as well.
