Some may also host the ghosts of residents past.
In a Daily Advertiser first, the city’s haunted buildings, properties and spaces will be revealed.
The Riverina is known for being home to arguably Australia’s most haunted house – the Monte Cristo Homestead in Junne – but Wagga psychic Kerry Nelson said plenty of old structures across the city were either home to ghosts or spirits or visited by them.
She said places like Romano’s Hotel and the old courthouse were likely to have resident ghosts because of their age.
“You have so many people through these places,” Ms Nelson said. “Some just like to go back to locations they were familiar with.”
A former ghost-tour guide, Ms Nelson said she had been working in the psychic field for more than 10 years.
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, she said a common misconception was ghosts were all mean or were hanging around because they had experienced something traumatic.
“That’s not true,” Ms Nelson said. “This is how it works: Most souls cross into the light but they don’t have to stay on the other side.”

She said some spirits would frequently visit someone or some place they had a strong connection with, but that did not mean they were earthbound.
She said when someone experienced “that chill” – the prickling of skin, the hair-raising and cold, creepy feeling – it was living energy.
Ms Nelson said residents may get a heavier, sick feeling when around an earthbound spirit.
In an example, Ms Nelson said she had recently visited a resident’s haunted home in Wagga, after the occupant reported their house was haunted.
Ms Nelson said she had communicated with an earthbound judge from the 1940s.
“He was not a nice judge,” she said. “But he won’t cross over because he’s scared.”
