The One Night Stand is a free concert, at a regional location around Australia each year by the youth radio station.
“Accessibility to the arts is something that’s really important and I would love for young people across the Riverina to have the opportunity to experience something like triple J’s One Night Stand,” Mr McCarthy said.
“It’s an experience you don’t get out in the regions and places with a small population,” he said.
Festivals like One Night Stand and Groovin’ The Moo, which originally started in Narrandera, were a huge boost to the towns which hosted them.
“[Groovin’ the Moo] showed that Narrandera was more than a weird name on a map,” Mr McCarthy said.
Mr McCarthy said getting involved was simple.
“People need to jump on Facebook, jump on Twitter or Instagram any social media they have and comment on triple J’s posts to bring the One Night Stand to Cootamundra,” he said.
Before filling out the application form, Mr McCarthy got Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council on board.
“They’re fully behind it,” Mr McCarthy said.
“I thought we could bang it straight onto Fisher Park, in the middle of town.”
Mr McCarthy said Cootamundra’s location on the main southern rail line would allow thousands to make their way to town and from Sydney, Melbourne and beyond.
Triple J will announce the location and line-up in May.
