Sitting in excess of 35 degrees last week, the mercury has since dropped below 20 degrees, prompting Wagga families to swap the beach towels for blankets.
The highest April temperature was officially broken at 2.26pm on Wednesday, when the Bureau of Meteorology recorded the temperature at 35.6 degrees, topping the previous record of 35.4 degrees set in 1986.
Wagga is expected to record a minimum temperature of 8 degrees next week.
