THE Narrandera Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) was formed out of a meeting called by Lions Club in 1968 following a local tragedy; a drowning and body recovery in Berrembed Weir by the Wagga Rescue Club.

Since then, well-trained members have provided invaluable medical assistance and back-up support to other services. It was an impressive NSW VRA line-up at their mid-year conference and celebrate the local association’s 50 years. Tim Hetherington and Narrandera VRA captain Wayne Heidtmann were two of about 30 who received their 10-year service medals on April 7.
VRA Commissioner Mark Gibson pointed out that Dubbo, Albury, Wagga and Narrandera were the first rescue squads in the state.

Narrandera Race Club Inc. has gathered momentum over the past few years and in addition to its excellent facilities, there has been a substantial increase in prize money and other format changes.
In 2018, the LW Peacock Cup will be held on Saturday, June 16; the Narrandera Cup on Sunday, July 11; and the TC Lee Memorial Club on Saturday August 18.
According to Narrandera’s Racing Manager Michael Bailey, the Narrandera Cup is offering $30,000 in prize money, $600 in trophies and will be a Sky One, TAB meeting. With better horses contesting the Narrandera Cup, distance will increase to 1600 metres from 1400 metres.
The Club will launch its racing season on May 26 with its Spain themed Face of Racing dinner at which last year’s winner, Laura Darrington, will hand over to 2018’s “new” face.
