“It’s amazing that we’re looking at selling out our season,” Mr Simpson said. “It’s a bit scary – I quit my full-time job to pursue comedy – but it’s also incredible. All of these people I’m knocking around with, who you see all the time on TV, I’m making friends with them and they’re nice, normal people.”
It’s been a meteoric rise for the likeable comedian, who used to tape the comedy festival gala as a child and watch it with his brother.
“It was on too late so we’d watch it the next day,” he said. “We’d fast-forward through the people we didn’t like and when I finally got my gala spot the first person I called was my brother. He said he couldn’t wait to fast-forward me.”
But despite the success, there’s no place like home.
“I wouldn’t have gotten this far without Wagga’s support,” Mr Simpson said. “I dreamed of this but never thought I’d actually be doing it. It’s so much fun.”
