The Bulldogs have put in a clearance for Ness to return to the club, but it will only be for a short time.
Ness will play the first two games of the season at Turvey Park before heading overseas.
Turvey Park captain-coach Truman Carroll did not rule out a first grade appearance for Ness before he leaves.
“He turns up next week,” Carroll said.
“He might play (first grade) against Tigers. We’ll see how he goes in round one.”
Ness was one of Turvey Park’s best players before moving to Queensland. He is also the son of club legend, Terry.
The Bulldogs host Coolamon in the opening round at Maher Oval on Saturday week, April 21.
Ness will play against the Hoppers and Wagga Tigers at Maher Oval in round two.
The Bulldogs will go into the season with confidence on the back of four pre-season trial victories.
