The Eagles have been the big movers this off-season and have secured the services of Williams Jnr, a slick-moving utility from Canberra.
Williams Jnr spent a season at Greater Western Sydney (GWS) as a scholarship player before more recently spending time with Northern Territory (NT) Thunder and Ainslie.
The 24-year-old played in Narrandera’s pre-season trial loss to Ainslie last weekend and set the Eagles alight with his pace from half-back.
Narrandera captain-coach Jarred Lane is thrilled to welcome on board another quality signing.
“He’s got a bit of X-factor about him, that’s for sure,” Lane said.
“He’s played a lot of good footy, played a lot of footy up in the NT and his record speaks for itself, really. He was with the Giants for a little while.
“He can play, that’s for sure.”
Williams Jnr will join Josh Bennett, Matt Renet, Blake Renet and Corey Baxter in travelling from Canberra to link with Narrandera.
Williams Jnr can play anywhere but Lane expects him to start at centre-half-back.
“He can play anywhere,” he said.
“For us, he will probably start at half-back where he can run the footy and use the ball well.
“He’s a good size, he’s six foot two or three and plays fairly tall so we’ll start him there but he can also go through the midfield, through the ruck, or anywhere really.
“He’s versatile, and will give us a lot of options anyway.”
Narrandera were well beaten by Ainslie in their second trial on the weekend but showed a lot of positive signs in the first half.
Apart from Williams, Cooper Irons and the Renet brothers impressed.
Bennett missed both trial games, the second due to the birth of his child, but will be right to go for the Eagles’ round one trip to Griffith.
Narrandera have also welcomed back Tyler Webster from Osborne in time for the start of the season.
